If you are keeping your Windows XP computer, but upgrading your Pervasive installation, you must first remove Pervasive 7.92. Because of security enhancements to Windows, the Pervasive 7.92 un-installation process can leave pieces behind that cause problems with the installation of Pervasive PSQL version 11.
To remove all parts of Pervasive 7.92 without removing C21 or its data:
1. Make sure that you are not in C21.
* Use the Add/Remove programs list in your control panel and go through the "normal" un-installation
process for Pervasive PSQL 2000i.
* If the un-installation tells you that you must stop the database engine before it can continue, go to
the clock area at the lower right area of your screen and find the small white computer icon with a
dot.
* Right-click the icon and select "Stop Engines and Exit".
* Proceed with the un-installation process.
2. Check to ensure that the "normal" un-installation did not leave files on your hard drive.
* Open MyComputer and go to the C:/ drive window.
* Make sure there are no folders called "PVSW" or "pvswarch".
* If you find either of these, delete them.
3. PVSW 7.92, places a system file in the Windows directories that sometimes doesn't get removed.
* Do a Windows system search for a file called "w3btrv7.dll".
* If you find any instances of that file, delete them.
4. Check the System Registry for remaining Pervasive entries.
* Run the "regedit" command from the Start menu search box.
* Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Pervasive folder and delete it.
5. Lastly, remove any remaining references to Pervasive in the Environment settings.
* Go to the My Computer icon, right-click, and choose "Properties" from the shortcut menu.
* Click on the "Advanced" tab and then click the "Environment Variables" button.
* In the resulting window, find the "Path" variable in the list.
* Select it and click the "Edit" button.
* Remove any reverences to the PVSW/Bin folder.
* Click "OK" to close the windows until you are back to your desktop.
6. Restart the computer. When the computer comes back up, you will install Pervasive 11.3 or higher
